‘THE CURSED ONE’ GRABS 13 NOMINATIONS AT THE AMAA 2016.

“The Cursed Ones” is a 2015 film that was directed by Nana Obiri Yeboah. The original screenplay was written by Maximilian Claussen and inspired by the BAFTA winning 2009 documentary, Saving Africa’s Witch Children. The film tells the story of a disillusioned reporter and an idealistic young pastor, who fight to free a girl accused of witchcraft from the clutches of a system of corruption and superstition in the heart of West Africa.


It was nominated for Achievement in Production Design, Costume, Make-Up, Soundtrack, Sound, Cinematography, editing, screenplay, Young/Promising Actor, Actor in supporting role, Best Actor in a leading role, Best Director and Best Film.
Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s ‘Rebecca’ was also nominated for Achievement in Sound and Editing. ‘The Peculiar Life of a Spider’, which is also from Ghana, was among the nominees for Best Animation. ‘Cursed Treasure’ and ‘Daggers of Life (Agbe Fe Akumehewo)’ were also nominated for the Best Film in an African Language.
